UNC China Connection
Chinese jazz education pioneer, Chang Su, also a doctoral student in Jazz Studies at University of Northern Colorado creates opportunities for the musicians in the United States to tour in China. The music tours also provides a great educational experience for the Chinese audience and students to connect to the Western musical cultures and receive masterclasses, lessons and workshops with the educators and performers from the United States. As the managing coordinator, I have been with the annual tour since 2013 to present. The tours have brought UNC Jazz lab 1, UNC faculty jazz quartet and Global Saxophone Quartet to cities in China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjing, Wuhan, Changsha. These groups have visited many schools and conservatories including: Beijing Central Conservatory of Music, Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Tianjing Conservatory of Music, Wuhan Conservatory of Music, Beijing Contemporary Academy of Music, and many other schools and music institutes.
